Another Legend has died. Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul, has left this world to sing in the Heavenly Choir. She passed away in her Detroit home after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 76.
The only songs I’ve ever known her to sing were ‘Natural Woman’, ‘I Say a Little Prayer for You’, and ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T’. ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T’ is a song that has lasted generations. I’m from South Georgia and I love Otis Redding. I found out a couple years ago that Redding actually wrote ‘RESPECT’ and when Aretha heard it she changed a couple lyrics, made it her own, and Redding said it belonged to her.
Aretha earned 2 Grammy Awards for ‘RESPECT’ and went on to be featured in more than 30 major films including “Mystic Pizza” and “Forrest Gump”.
I like to think that Heaven is having a really Talent Show tonight as she joins many legends that have passed on before her especially those who have died in recent years such as Prince, David Bowie, Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley, Tom Petty, and even Otis Redding.
