…living in a North Carolina World.
Chuck’s cousin is coming through town on her way back home from vacation in a couple weeks, so I’ve decided to make her a North Carolina Gift Bag. BUT Here’s the Problem, I’ve only lived here for 4 years and don’t have much to go on.
We live in Durham, which is best known for its rich Tobacco History as well as Duke Hospital and University. Other North Carolina interest are University of North Carolina and Carolina Panthers (as well as other schools and sports including NASCAR and Ice Hockey), Billy Graham, Biltmore Estate, and best known for its beautiful mountains and beaches (or so I’ve been told, I’ve never been to the beaches), Famous Lighthouses, and Cherokee Casinos, but when it comes to products made or can only get in North Carolina, I’m truly at a loss.
If I was in Georgia, where she is vacationing, I wouldn’t have any problems with ideas. I’m a Georgia Girl. Georgia is home to so much and I would fill her gift with peanuts, pecans, peaches, Coca-Colas, Vidalia Onions or Salad Dressings, Pralines, Salt Water Taffy, Yum-Yum Sauce, and Striplings Barbeque Sauce, just to name a few, and would probably include Georgia Bulldog or Atlanta Braves Memorabilia and a Paula Deen Cookbook. Georgia is also known for Chick-Fil-A, Zaxby’s, Bob’s Candy, and Cabbage Patch Kids.
So, since I don’t have much time I’ve reached out to some of my NC-raised friends for help in recommending products made or can only get in North Carolina.
So, if you had to make a Welcome Gift Bag (or basket) for a friend or family members that were coming to visit for the first time from the out-of-state, what would you include in your gift?
